Varsity Swimming Well Represented At Day 1 Of WPIAL Championships At University Of Pittsburgh

The varsity swim team recorded numerous top 10 finishes and are in position for a few to advance to the PIAA championships after Day 1 of the WPIAL Championships at University of Pittsburgh's Trees Pool.

For the girls, the 200 medley relay consisting of Brooke Price, Kalleigh Smith, Giuliana Ricciuti, and Dom Massie was the top finisher for the Mustangs in fifth place. Ricciuti was the top individual finisher with a seventh place finish in the 200 freestyle.The 200 freestyle relay consisting of Olivia Miller, Delaney Hunsinger, Charlotte Faust,  and Elle Irwin finished in eighth place.

Other place finishers for the firls were Brooke Price (16th) and Kalleigh Smith (20th) in the 200 IM, Miller (19th), Irwin (22nd) and Faust (29th) in the 50 freestyle, and Dom Massie (17th) in the 100 fly.

For the Boys, the 200 medley relay consisting of Wade Kerestztury, Maddox Sciullo, Connor Potochrik, and Aiden Irwin took 16th place and the 200 freestyle relay with Potochrik, Sciullo, Brayden Frick, and Irwin finished in 17th place. Irwin took 30th place in the 50 freestyle.

 

Girls Varsity Swim Wins First Section Title In 33 Years

It was a celebration a long time in the making on Thursday night when the final event concluding in the pool.

After the Mustangs 91-71 win against Woodland Hills, it was announced that they won the section title for the first time since 1992. The girls did that with an undefeated record.

The boys concluded a stellar season as well with a 91-64 win against the Wolverines, finishing the regular season with only one loss.

The Mustangs will compete at the WPIAL individual championships on Feb. 27-28 at University of Pittsburgh's Trees Pool.

Varsity Swim Record More WPIAL Cut Times; Girls Inch Closer To Section Title With Win At Penn Hills

The varsity swim team had another productive night in the pool, sweeping Penn Hills on the road. The boys won 71-57 and the girls remained undefeated with a 88-65 win.

 The Mustangs are one win away from clinching the section outright for the first time since 1992.

the team had three swimmers make WPIAL cuts. Olivia Miller qualified in the 50 freestyle, Delaney Hunsinger in the 100 freestyle and Holtin Richard in the 100 backstroke.

The Mustangs regualr season finale is next Thursday when they host Woodland Hills at 6 p.m.

Girls Varsity Swim Delivers Pivotal Section Win Against Fox Chapel

The varsity swim team faced its toughest test of the season on Tuesday night against perennial section favorites, Fox Chapel.

The girls team were able to overcome that hurdle with a 93-75 win. The boys lost by the identical score.

With three section meets remaining, the girls are now in pole position for their first section title since 1992.

In the 200 IM, Brooke Price and Kayleigh Smith both recorded WPIAL qualifying times.

The 50 freestyle was the dominant event of the night for the Mustangs with four swimmers recording WPIAL qualifying times with Charlotte Faust, Elle Irwin, Dom Massie and Wade Keresztury accomplishing that.

The Mustangs will have a quick turnaround as they will travel to Baldwin on Thursday for a section meet at 6 p.m.

Varsity Swim Sweep Shaler Area On Senior Night

The varsity swim team swept Shaler Area on their senior night on Thursday night. 

The boys won 85-57 and Aiden Irwin recorded a WPIAL qualifying time in the 50 freestyle. 

The girls stayed undefeated with a 90-71 win.

The seniors recognized were Michelina Corrado, Jaimin Hancock, Giuliana Ricciuti, Maddox Sciullo and Kayleigh Smith.

The Mustangs will return to the pool next Tuesday when they host Fox Chapel at 6 p.m.

Varsity Swim Sweeps Mars At Home in Non-Section Meet

The varsity swim team braved the cold temperatures and came away with a sweep at home against Mars on Tuesday night. 

The boys won 92-76 to improve to 6-1 on the season.

The girls won 88-64 to stay undefeated at 7-0. Giuliana Ricciuti recorded another WPIAL cut time, this time qualifying in the 500 freestyle.

The Mustangs will be back in the pool on Thursday when they host Shaler on Thursday at 6 p.m. for Senior Night.

Varsity Swim Team Sweeps Central Catholic and Oakland Catholic At Home

The varsity swim team came away with a pair of home wins on Monday night, sweeping Central Catholic and Oakland Catholic.

The boys narrowly won by a score of 87-82.

The girls won 96-62.

Giulliana Ricciuti recorded a WPIAL qualyfing time in the 100 freestyle.

The Mustangs will be back in action on Thursday when they host Fox Chapel at 6 p.m.

Varsity Swim Sweeps Gateway In Section Meet

The varsity swim team returned from their winter break and defeated Gateway in their first meet of 2025.

For the boys, they narrowly defeated the Gators, 93-87.

For the girls, they defeated the Gators, 101-77, to remain undefeated. 

Giuliana Ricciuti recorded another WPIAL cut time, qualifying in the 50 freestyle.

The Mustangs return home for their next meet on Monday, when they host Central Catholic and Oakland Catholic at 6 p.m.

Varsity Swim Narrowly Sweeps Greater Latrobe In Home Opener

It came down to the last race, but the varsity swim team was able to pull out a pair of wins against Greater Latrobe in its home opener on Thursday.

The girls won 93-76 and the boys won 90-80.

The boys had a few qualify for WPIAL cut times with Holtin Richard qualifying in the 500 freestyle and Maddox Sciullo in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

The boys 200 freestyle realy team qualified as well.

The girls moved to 4-0 and the boys 3-1.

They will compete next after the holiday break on Jan. 9 at Gateway at 6 p.m.

Varsity Swim Sweeps Penn-Trafford, Adds WPIAL Qualifiers

The varsity swim team recorded the sweep at Penn-Trafford on Monday, as well as coming away with some WPIAL cut times.

The boys defeated the Warriors, 93-81, and the girls won 94.5 to 62.5.

The boys 400 freestyle relay team qualified for WPIALs in the meet.

For the girls, Dom Massie qualified in the 100 free and 100 fly and Giuliana Ricciuti qualified in the 100 fly.

The Mustangs will be back in the pool for their home opener on Thursday against Greater Latrobe at 6 p.m.
