Girls Bowling Finishes As State Runner-Ups; Boys Take 11th Place

The boys and girls varsity bowling teams competed in the bowling state championships at AMF Noble Manor Lanes over the weekend, and the girls came away with some team and individual hardware.

The girls finished the qualifying round in second place and defeated Governor Mifflin in the semifinals before falling to Hempfield in the championship round. Alexandria Fulmer and Callie Schimmer were named to the all-tournament team. The day before, Addison and Brooklyn Then competed in the state individual tournament. Addison finished in 10th place and Brooklyn took 21st place.

For the boys, they finished the season in 11th place.

Girls Bowling 3-Peats As Regional Champions; Boys Also Qualify For States

The dynasty of the girls varsity bowling team continued over the weekend, winning their third consecutive Western PA Regional championship at AMF Noble Manor Lanes.

The girls finished the qualifying round as the top-seed, earning a first round bye in the playoffs. They defeated McDowell 2-1 in the semifinals and hempfield in the finals by the same score.

Callie Schimmer led the team with a 608 series. Also bowling in the 600's was Addison Then with a 601. Both made the all-tournament team. Addison, along with her sister, Brooklyn, also qualified for the individual state tournament. Out of 74 bowlers, Brooklyn finished in sixth place and Addison finished in ninth.

For the boys, they qualified for states after finishing in the top six in the qualifying round. In the first round, the Mustangs defeated Hempfield, 2-1. They defeated Armstrong by the same score in the semifinals before falling to Thomas Jefferson, 2-0, in the championship. Cade Schimmer led the team with a 583 series. Vince Rossetti was right behind him with a 582 series. Brian Krall also bowled in the 500's with a 531 series.

Girls Varsity Bowling Repeats As WPIBL Champions, Completes Bowling Sweep

It was a familiar scene for the girls varsity bowling team on Thursday as they stood in front of the lanes holding the WPIBL championship trophy.

The Mustangs repeated as champions after edging out Hempfield 2-1 in the championship round. The girls got a bye to the championship after earning the top-seed in the preliminary round. 

The girls won the championship the day after the boys did for the first time since 2004.

Both teams will compete in the individual championships next week.

Boys Varsity Bowling Wins WPIBL Championship

The boys varsity bowling team captured the WPIBL Championship on Wednesday at Noble Manor Lanes. This was the first championship for the team since 2004.

The Mustangs finished the preliminary round in second place.

They defeated New Castle 2-1 in the semifinals and swept top-seed Greensburg Salem in the finals.

Cade Schimmer Bowls Perfect Score; Girls Clinch Section Title

It was Senior Day to remember for the Plum bowling team against Gateway at Nesbit Lanes on Wednesday. Both teams swept the Gators with the boys winning 4-3 and the girls 7-0

Senior Cade Schimmer stole the show in his third a final game, bowling a perfect 300 game. He led the team with 735 series. The boys finished second in the section.

For the third year in a row, the girls finished an undefeated section slate for another section title. Addison Then led the Mustangs with a 643 series and game-high of 236. Also scoring in the 600 series was Callie Schimmer with a 606.

The teams will compete in the WPIBL Team Championships next week. The boys will be on Wednesday and the girls on Thursday at AMF Noble Manor Lanes.

Varsity Bowling Continues To Roll With Sweep Against Penn Hills

The boys and girls bowling teams continued its winning ways on Wednesday with dual 7-0 sweeps against Penn Hills at Nesbit Lanes.

For the boys, Daniel VanScyoc led the team with a 598 series and game-high 220. Also scoring in the 500 series was Grayson Koontz and Cade Schimmer with a 573 and 556 series, respectively.

For the girls, Addison Then led the team with a 580 series and game-high 224. Callie Schimmer was right behind her with a 571 series and 234 game-high and Alexandria Fulmer with a 532 series.

The bowling team will honor their seniors next Wednesday when they host Gateway at 3 p.m. at Nesbit Lanes.

Varsity Bowling Sweeps Valley At Wildlife Lanes

The varsity bowling team picked up a pair of 7-0 wins on Wednesday at Wildlife Lanes.

For the boys, Cade Schimmer led the Mustangs with a 736 series, including a game-high of 258. The Mustangs had four bowlers in the 600's in Grayson Koontz (649), Grayson Byass-Roscoe (640), Brian Krail (628) and Tim Ellefson (607).

For the girls, Addison Then led the Mustangs with a 583 series and game-high 226. Following in the 500's were Brooklynn Then (574), Callie Schimmer (551), Alexandria Fulmer (543).

The team will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Penn Hills at Nesbit Lanes at 3 p.m.

Varsity Bowling Sweeps St. Joseph At Nesbit Lanes

The boys and girls bowling team picked up another sweep on the season, defeating St. Joseph 7-0 on Wednesday at Nesbit Lanes.

For the boys, Vince Rossetti led the team with a 630 series. Grayson Byass-Rascoe was right behind him with a 624 series. Cade Schimmer and Brian Krall had a 588 and 587 series, respectively.

For the girls, Addison Then led with a 580 series. Second was Brooklynn Then with a 55 series. Also scoring series in the 500's were Bobbie Mell and Callie Schiimer at 533 and 519, respectively.

The Mustangs will travel to Wildlife Lanes next Wednesday for their next match against Valley.

Varsity Bowling Defends Bearcat Invitational Championship

The boys and girls varsity bowling teams were back at the lanes over the weekend, and successfully defended their Bearcat Invitational Championship at Saint Vincent College.

For the girls, they entered the knockout round as the top-sedd. They defeated No. 4 Hempfield Area, 448-414, and defeated No. 2 Norwin, 448-380 in the championship round. Callie Schimmer was named to the all-tournament team.

For the boys, they entered the knockout round as the No. 3 seed. They defeated No. 2 Hempfield Area, 448-441, and then knocked out top-seed Gateway, 469-454 in the championship round.

Both teams will return to regular season action on Wednesday, January 8th against Gateway at New Great Valley Lanes.
