The varsity football team jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 49-10 win against Fox Chapel on Senior Night on Friday.

On the second play of the game, Darian Nelson scampered 83 yards to put the Mustangs up 7-0. 

The game was broken open a little in the second quarter with two touchdown passes from John Nonnenberg to make it 19-10 at the half. Nonnenberg found Sloan Humphries for a 8-yard touchdown and Brendan Marston for a 21-yard touchdown.

The Mustangs took complete control in the second half, outscoring the Foxes 30-0.

The scoring started with a safety after Fox Chapel had a bad snap that went out of the end zone. The Mustangs had two rushing touchdowns in the third quarter, a 12-yard run by Nick Odom and a 2-yard run by Nick Sheffo.

In the fourth quarter, Nelson scored his second rushing touchdown of the game from a yard out and Sheffo scored his second touchdown of the game on a 22-yard fumble recovery to finish the scoring.

Nelson finished with 153 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns. Odom had 101 rushing yards on 16 carries and a score. Humphries finished with 122 receiving yards on five catches.

Taivon Rupert led the defense with seven tackles, and Trent Reese and CJ Hart each recorded a sack.

The Mustangs improved to 2-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

They will travel to Kiski Area this Friday for a non-conference game at 7:15 p.m.
