Boys Varsity Golf Finishes Third In Class 3A WPIAL Championship

The boys varsity golf team captured third place in the WPIAL Class 3A Championships at Cedarbrook Golf Club in Belle Vernon.

The Mustangs finished with a round of 399. North Allegheny was first with a 386 and South Fayette was second with a 389.

Wes Lorish led the team with a round of 71 and Tim Pease followed with a 79.

Boys Varsity Golf Advances to Class 3A WPIAL Team Championship

The boys varsity golf team advanced to the Class 3A WPIAL Team championship for the second time in three years after finishing in the top three in the semifinals on Tuesday at Champions Lake Golf Course.

Eight teams competed on Tuesday. Also advancing with Plum was Fox Chapel and North Allegheny. The Foxes led with a score of 380, the Tigers had 390 and the Mustangs finished with a 403. Also competing were Central Catholic, Connellsville, Franklin Regional, Greater Latrobe and Indiana.

The top two finishers for the Mustangs were Wes Lorish with 72 and Dany Caruso with a 77. Lorish was the second overall finisher in the event. 

The championships will be held on Thursday at Cedarbrook golf Course in Belle Vernon at 10 a.m.

Wes Lorish Finishes Sixth At WPIAL Championships, Advances to PIAA

After finishing tied for 14th a year ago at the Class 3A Boys Golf WPIAL Championships, senior Wes Lorish improved his ranking, taking sixth place in the event held at Oakmont Country Club on Tuesday.

Lorish finished 2-over par in the final round to finish the WPIAL championship 5-over par.

Senior Colton Lusk from Peters Township won the championship with a 2-under par for the two rounds.

Lorish will prepare for the PIAA championships on Oct. 20-21 at Penn State University.

For the second year in a row, Wes Lorish can claim himself as the individual section champion. Lorish earned medalist honors with a round of 68 at Meadowink Golf Course on Tuesday. He defeated Franklin Regional's Colin Holt by one stroke.

Tim Pease also will advance to the WPIAL finals with a fourth place finish and round of 72. 

Ten players from the section hit the target score of 81 and are advancing to the WPIAL finals.

The first round of the WPIAL Class 3A boys individual round will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at Southpointe Golf Club in Canonsburg, Pa.

Boys Varsity Golf Starts Season With 4-1 Record

Heading into the first day of school, the boys varsity golf team has already jumped out to a 4-1 record.

The Mustangs defeated Gateway, Penn-Trafford, Mars and Woodland Hills. Their lone loss was a narrow defeat at Franklin Regional.

Senior Wes Lorish has led the team in the early part of the season, finishing with rounds of 30, 34, 34, 34, and a 30.

The boys will be back on the course on Thursday when they host West Mifflin at Oakmont Country Club at 3:30 p.m.
