Alaina Claassen Wins Back-To-Back WPIAL Championships; Saphia Davis And Addison Claassen Qualifies For Regionals

Alaina Claassen changed weight classes in her junior year, but the results stayed the same. Claassen made it 2-for-2 in WPIAL Championships when she captured the title on Saturday at North Allegheny in the 190-pound weight class.

Claassen entered the championship tournament as the top-seed in her bracket and has won every tournament she has entered this season. 

Claassen received a bye into the quarterfinals and then pinned her next two opponents before earning a 3-0 decision in the championship bout.

Also making the championship was Saphia Davis at 130-pounds. She entered the bracket as the No. 2 seed. In the round of 16, she recorded an 18-3 tech fall. She pinned her opponent in the quarterfinals and recorded an 18-2 tech fall in the semifinals. Davis fell 12-1 in the championship to the state-runner-up last year, Haley Smarsh from Moon.

Also qualifying for regionals was Addison Claassen with a fifth place finish at 124-pounds. Claassen won her first match before losing in the quarterfinals. She won her next two matches by pins before losing in the next consolation round. She rebounded with winning the fifth place match.

The girls will compete in the regional tournament at North Allegheny on March 1.

Alaina Claassen Wins Fifth Tournament, Team Places 10th At North Allegheny Invitational

Plum junior Alaina Claassen has been perfect on the mat this season, and won her fifth tournament of the season at North Allegheny on Saturday.

As the top seed, Claassen pinned all of her opponents in the tournament.

Saphia Davis finished in second place as the No. 3 seed in her bracket. She recorded two pins and a major decision to reach the finals, before losing by major decision to the top-seed.

Addidson Claassen finished in third place as the No. 4 seed in her bracket. She advanced to the semifinals with two pins, before getting pinned by the top seed. She bounced back by recording another pin in the third place match.

As a team, the Mustangs finished in 10th place.

They will be back on the mat on Wednesday when they host Fox Chapel at 6 p.m. for Senior Night.

Alaina Claassen Wins Fourth Tournament; Team Places Tenth

It's become a common occurrence seeing Alaina Claassen on top of the podium. 

On Saturday, Claassen captured her fourth tournament championship this season in four tries, this time claiming victory at the Butler Invitational.

She was not alone, as Saphia Davis took home second place in her second tournament back from injury. 

Also placing was Addison Claasen in fifth place and Caroline Perez in sixth place.

The Mustangs will return to the mat next Saturday when they compete in the North Allegheny Invitational. 

Claassen's Place First At Girls Wrestling At Lady Falcon Invitational

The girls varsity wrestling team came away with a sixth place finish and a couple of champions at the Lady Falcon Invitational at Connellsville.

Alaina and Addison Claassen both were crowned champions in the tournament in their respective weight classes. It was the third tournament championship for Alaina this season.

Also placing were Kelsie Nesbitt in fourth place and Lily McLean in sixth place.

The Mustangs will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 11 when they compete in the Mid-Winter Mayhem tournament at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Alaina Claassen Captures Girls Wrestling Powerade Tournament Title

Junior Alaina Claassen has accomplished a lot in her high school wrestling career, and now she can add being a Powerade Tournament champion.

Claassen entered the 190-pound bracket at Canon-McMillan High School as the No. 2 seed and a frist round bye.

In the quarterfinals, Claassen pinned her opponent, K. Croyle from Kiski Area, in the first round. 

In the semifinals, she pinned L. Giulianelli 2-minutes and 50-seconds into the match.

In the championship bout, Claassen took down top-seed, N. Rush from Canon-McMillan, by a 9-5 decision.

The girls wrestling team will be back in action in the new year when they compete in the Connellsville Torunament on Jan. 4.

Alaina Claassen Wins Pine-Richland Ram Slam Tournament

The girls varsity wrestling team competed in the Pine-Richland Ram Slam Tournament over the weekend, and came away with a champion.

As the top-seed at 190 pounds, Alaina Claassen ran the table. After receiving a bye, Claassen pinned her next two opponents before earning a 3-0 decision in the championship bout.

The other Mustangs place winner was Addison Claassen. As the No. 2 seed at 130 pounds, Claassen pinned her first two opponents to advance to the semifinals. Claassen lost in the semifinals and third place bout to finish in fourth place.

The girls wrestling team will be back in action on Dec. 30 when it competes in the Powerade Tournament at Canon-McMIllan High School
