It was a short turnaround for many of the track athletes after getting home in the early morning hours from the Butler Invite on Friday, but the Mustangs were back at in a few hours later and performed well at the Slippery Rock University Invite on Friday.

For the girls, Amber Porter placed twice and had a couple of personal bests. Porter finished fourth in the high jump and seventh in the 100 hurdles. Amora Sorzano-Lee took seventh place in the 3,200.

The boys registered multiple place winners. The relay team in the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 all took third place. The top overall place winner for the boys was Noah Odom finishing in fifth place in the 400 with a personal best time. 

Jordan Stead got a personal best in the 100, placing sixth, Maddox Roedersheimer finished the same with a person best in the high jump, and Tyler McClintock took seventh place in the steeple chase.

Owen Proskin finished in seventh place in the 200 and eighth place in the pole vault.

Placing in eighth place was Niko Signor in the 100, Terrance Montue in the discus, and David Pupilli in the 300 with a person best time.

The boys took seventh place overall.

The Mustangs will next compete on May 1 at the Norwin 9/10 Invitational.

In one of the biggest competitions of the season that showcased over 100 teams, the varsity track and field team represented well at the butler Invitational.

The boys squad finished ninth overall with numerous place winners, led by Owen Proskin.

Proskin took third place in the 110 hurdles, fifth in the 300 hurdles and fifth in the high jump.

A pair of sixth place finishers were Kent Holmes in the 400 and Sloan Humphries in the triple jump. The 400 relay team took eighth.

Leading the girls was Gabby Layne. Laybe finished in third place in the 100 and 200 and the 400 relay team also took third place.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Mustangs, who will compete in the Slippery Rock Invitational today.

For the first time since at least 2019, the boys and girls varsity track and field team will be competing in the WPIAL team playoffs.

Both teams finished in second place in the section with a 5-1 record.

They both completed section play on Tuesday at home. The boys defeated Central Catholic 104-46 and McKeesport 112-38.

The girls defeated Oakland Catholic 105-42 and McKeesport 132-10.

The Mustangs will travel to the Slippery Rock Invitational on Friday.

Plum junior Owen Proskin can now be considered a National Champion and All-American. Proskin earned that title over the weekend in the pentathlon at the Nick Armory Track and Field facility in New York City.

Proskin put together a complete day, competing in the 60-meter hurdles, long jump, shot put, high jump, and 1,000-meter.

After the first event in the 60-meter hurdles, Proskin positioned himself in second place. He maintained that position after the second event, the long jump, after finishing behind a kid from texas and committed to Baylor in both events.

In the shot put, he placed sixth, but stayed in second place overall and narrowed the gap to first place.

Down the stretch, Proskin came up clutch in the high jump. He won the event and pushed himself in first place by around 200 points.

With some wiggle room, Proskin finished in sixth place in the final event, but finished well enough to hold off the competition overall and become a national champion.
