Mackenzie Marotta's No-Hitter, Home Run Leads Varsity Softball Past Deer Lakes

Mackenzie Marotta did a little bit of everything in varsity softball's 10-0 win in five innings at Deer Lakes on Tuesday.
Marotta pitched a complete game no-hitter, striking out five, and also went 2-for-3 with a three run home run in the Mustangs eight run fourth inning.
Jaiden Gentile went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Dani Pici went 2-for-3 with a double two RBIs and Brooke Bernosky and Bella Tavella both had two hits and drove in a run.
Sydney Pici also got a hit and drove in a run.
The Mustangs finished the regular season 14-5 and will await their seeding for the WPIAL Class 5A

Varsity Softball End Regular Season Home Slate With Run-Rule Win Against Burrell

The varsity softball team dealt with a rain delay for the second straight game, and for the second straight game returned from the delay with a win after defeating Burrell 10-0 on Monday afternoon.
The Mustangs scored eight runs in the first inning, half of those coming from a Syndey Pici grand slam. Pici finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs, two runs scored and a walk.
Dani Pici also hit a home run, going 2-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored.
Also recording multi-hit games were Brooke Bernosky and Jaiden Gentile.
Mackenzie Marotta drove in to runs and pitched a complete game shutout.
Also getting hits were Liana Yusko, Bella Tavella and Gia Tavella.
The Mustangs improve to 13-5 on the season.
They will travel to Deer Lakes for the regular season finale today at 5 p.m.

Dani Pici Delivers Walk-Off Home Run After Delay In Varsity Softball's Win Against New Castle

For the second time this season, the varsity softball team and New Castle lit up the scoreboard with both teams scoring in double digits.
After its 18-16 win at New Castle earlier in the season, the Mustangs stormed back and defeated the Red Hurricane, 12-10, on Friday courtesy of a walk-off two-run home run by Dani Pici. It was the Mustangs second walk-off home run of the season, also doing so against North Hills.
Pici, who hit one of six home runs on the day for the Mustangs, had two RBIs and two runs scored.
Jaiden Gentile and Riley Stephans both hit home runs and doubles. Gentile drove in three and scored a run and Stephans drove in two and scored a run.
Lily Deluca hit a home run, had three RBIs and two runs scored. Liana Yusko had a home run and scored two runs and Mackenzie Marotta hit a home run also.
Brooke Bernosky went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored. Bella Tavella and Sydney Pici also recorded hit.
The win improves their record to 12-5 overall and 8-4 in the section.
They will play their home finale on Monday against Burrell at 4 p.m.

Varsity Softball Run-Rules Penn Hills For Second Time This Season

The varsity softball team completed the regular season sweep against Penn Hills on Friday with another run-rule 13-0 section win.
Gia Tavella didn't record an out, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three singles, three RBIs and three runs scored.
Sydney Pici hit the only home run of the game, a two-run home run in her first at bat.
The Mustangs registered three triples in the game, two by Jaiden Gentile and one by Dani Pici.
Brooke Bernosky had the other extra base hit in the game, a double off the fence.
Also recording hits for the Mustangs were Liana Yusko, Mackenzie Marotta, and Bella Tavella.
Marotta also picked up the win in the circle, pitching a complete game, allowing one hit and striking out nine.
The team improves to 11-4 overall and 7-3 in section.
They will trabel to North Hills on Monday at 4 p.m. for another section game.

Varsity Softball Run-Rules Mars To Sweep Series

The varsity softball team erupted for eight runs in the first inning and cruised to a 12-1 win in five innings at Mars in section on Wednesday.
The win completed the section sweep against Mars, outscoring the Fightin Planets 24-4 in the season series.
Jaiden Gentile led the offense with three singles and two RBIs.
Liana Yusko went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored and Dani Pici had a double and three RBIs.
Sydney Pici went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Brooke Bernosky went 2-for-3 with a RBI and run scored.
Mackenzie Marotta and Bella Tavella also recorded hits. Marotta also was the winning pitcher, going give innings, allowing one run on three hits and struck out five.
The win improves their record to 10-2 overall and 6-1 in the section.
The team will host Fox Chapel tonight at 7 p.m. for Senior Night.

Varsity Softball Out-slugs New Castle In Section Win, 18-16

The two teams combined for 34 runs, but varsity softball prevailed on the road at New Castle in section play on Monday, 18-16.
The Mustangs jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning and led 10-1, but the Red Hurrican continued to crawl back and got the game within a couple of runs a few times.
As a team, the Mustangs belted six home runs, including two each from Dani Pici and Lily DeLuca. Pici finished with five RBIs and DeLuca had four.
Also hitting home runs were Liana Yusko and Mackenzie Marotta. Yusko also hit a triple and drove in a pair of runs. Marotta had a four hit game and drove in a pair of runs as well.
Jaiden Gentile had a double, triple and drove in a run. Riley Stephan, Gia Tavella and Sydney Pici all had hits as well and Bella Tavella drove in three runs.
The win improves their record to 9-2 overall and 5-1 in the section.
They will travel to Mars on Wednesday for a section game at 3:45 p.m.

Sydney Pici Ties It, Lily DeLuca Wins It For Varsity Softball In Last Inning Against North Hills

Down to their final out, the varsity softball team tied North Hills on a solo home run from Sydney Pici, and captured the 12-10 walk-off win on a home run by Lily DeLuca on Friday afternoon.
The Mustangs came back from a 9-2 deficit in the fourth inning.
The comeback started with Pici's first home run of the game, a three-run home run to cut the deficit to 9-5.
The deficit shrunk again the next inning when Bella Tavella singled up the middle to score two runs. The Mustangs trailed 10-8 entering the final inning, leading to Pici's and DeLuca's heroics.
DeLuca finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run, double, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Pici was 2-for-4 with two home runs, two runs scored and four RBIs. Dani Pici went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Liana Yusko with 4-for-5 with a leadoff home run, three doubles and three runs scored.
Mackenzie Marotta registered two RBIs and Bella and Gia Tavella both had a pair of hits.
Riley Stephans picked up the win in the circle in relief, going four innings, allowing two runs on six hits and struck out five.
The win improves their record to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the section.
They will travel to New Castle on Monday for a section game starting at 2 p.m. start

Varsity Softball Erupts In Second Inning In Run-Rule Win At Penn Hills

The varsity softball team scored all their runs in one inning, scoring 15 runs in the second inning in their run-rule win at Penn Hills in section play on Wednesday.
The Pici sisters, Dani and Sydney, led the offense with three RBIs apiece. Dani hit a triple and both had two hits.
Kadence Ohmer and Bella Tavella each had two RBIs and Ohmer hit a double. Gia Tavella also hit a double.
Mackenzie Marotta picked up the win, going three innings, allowing one hit and struck out five.
The Mustangs improved their record to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the section.
They will host North Hills in a section game on Monday at 4 p.m.

Liana Yusko Powers Varsity Softball To Section Win Against Mars

The varsity softball team got the perfect amount of production out of the leadoff spot in its 12-3 section win against Mars on Monday.
Liana Yusko went 5-for-5 with a grand slam, double and five RBIs to lead the Mustangs.
Lily Deluca, who hits second in the lineup, also belted a home run.
Brooke Bernosky went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Riley Stephans was the winning pitcher, pitching a complete game, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and struck out eight. She also went 2-for-3 with a RBI and run scored.
Also recording a hit and RBI was Dani Pici and Mackenzie Marotta.
The Mustangs improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the section.
They will host Shaler on Friday at 4 p.m. in a section game.

Varsity Softball Erupts For 17 Runs In Section-Opening Win At Fox Chapel

The bats continued to stay hot for the varsity softball team in its section-opening 17-7 win at Fox Chapel.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 6-0 lead, held off a rally by the Foxes to cut it to 6-5, and erupted for seven runs in the final inning to pick up its first section win.
Mackenzie Marotta went 4-for-5 at the plate with a home run, double, three runs scored and three RBIs. Liana Yusko 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored. Dani Pici also hit a home run for the Mustangs, finishing 2-for-5 with a run and RBI.
Riley Stephans went 2-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and was the winning pitcher, with a complete game and five strike outs.
Brooke Bernosky also had multiple hits, going 2-for 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Bella Tavella was a perfect 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs, and two runs scored.
Sydney Pici had a hit and two runs scored and Gia Tavella had a RBI and run scored.
The win improves the Mustangs record to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the section.
They will travel to West Mifflin on Saturday at noon for a non-section game.

Varsity Softball Ends Perfect First Week With Non-Section Win Against Moon

One week into the 2025 season, the varsity softball team has played three home games and picked up three wins. The latest was a 9-3 victory against Moon on Friday afternoon.
The Mustangs were rolling early, taking a 4-0 lead four batters into the bottom of the first inning courtesy of a grand slam from Riley Stephans. It was Stephans' third home run of the season.
That was all the support Stephans needed to provide herself in the circle, as she pitched a complete game, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits. She walked four and struck out eight.
Dani Pici hit her second home run of the season in the fourth inning. She finished with two runs and two RBIs.
Liana Yusko stayed hot out of the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored. Lily Deluca continued her streak of multi-hit games, going 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and RBI.
Sydney Pici recorded a double and Bella and Gia Tavella also recorded hits.
Through three games, the Mustangs have recorded 12 home runs.
The win improves their record to 3-0.
They will travel for the first time this season when they go to Franklin Regional in a non-section game on Monday at 4 p.m.

Home Runs Continue To Power Varsity Softball In Narrow Win Against Knoch

The varsity softball team has used the long ball in the first two games of the season, hitting three more on Wednesday in an 8-7 win against Knoch.
Liana Yusko was the leader this game, hitting two home runs and driving in five runs. Mackenzie Marotta also hit a 3-run home run, giving the Mustangs seven different players who have homered through two games this season.
It was a comeback victory for the Mustangs, who fell behind 3-0 after two innings, but erupted for six runs in the third inning.
Lily Deluca and Gia Tavella also recorded two hits in the game.
Ruley Stephans came in relief in the circle and recorded seven strikeouts in four innings.
The win improves their record to 2-0 and they will host Moon on Friday at 4 p.m. in a non-section game.

Varsity Softball Slugs Seven Home Runs In Season-Opening Win Against Chartiers Valley

The temperature dropped outside, the bats stayed scorching hot for the girls varsity softball team in its 13-0 win in five innings against Chartiers Valley in the season and home opener on Monday.
Freshman Lily Deluca and junior Riley Stephans led the home run barrage with two apiece. Deluca's first was her first of her high school career and led the team with five RBIs. Stephans were both solo home runs. She also was the winning pitcher, tossing a two-hit, complete game shutout. She struck out two batters.
Senior Danielle Pici got the scoring started with a three-run home run in the first inning. Sophomore Sydney Pici hit her first career home run later in the game.
Sophomore Brooke Bernosky also hit her first career home run in the game.
Junior Gia Tavella went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
The win improves the Mustangs to 1-0.
They will host Knoch in another non-section game on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
