Liana Yusko Powers Varsity Softball To Section Win Against Mars

The varsity softball team got the perfect amount of production out of the leadoff spot in its 12-3 section win against Mars on Monday.
Liana Yusko went 5-for-5 with a grand slam, double and five RBIs to lead the Mustangs.
Lily Deluca, who hits second in the lineup, also belted a home run.
Brooke Bernosky went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Riley Stephans was the winning pitcher, pitching a complete game, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and struck out eight. She also went 2-for-3 with a RBI and run scored.
Also recording a hit and RBI was Dani Pici and Mackenzie Marotta.
The Mustangs improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the section.
They will host Shaler on Friday at 4 p.m. in a section game.

Varsity Softball Erupts For 17 Runs In Section-Opening Win At Fox Chapel

The bats continued to stay hot for the varsity softball team in its section-opening 17-7 win at Fox Chapel.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 6-0 lead, held off a rally by the Foxes to cut it to 6-5, and erupted for seven runs in the final inning to pick up its first section win.
Mackenzie Marotta went 4-for-5 at the plate with a home run, double, three runs scored and three RBIs. Liana Yusko 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored. Dani Pici also hit a home run for the Mustangs, finishing 2-for-5 with a run and RBI.
Riley Stephans went 2-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and was the winning pitcher, with a complete game and five strike outs.
Brooke Bernosky also had multiple hits, going 2-for 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Bella Tavella was a perfect 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs, and two runs scored.
Sydney Pici had a hit and two runs scored and Gia Tavella had a RBI and run scored.
The win improves the Mustangs record to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the section.
They will travel to West Mifflin on Saturday at noon for a non-section game.

Varsity Softball Ends Perfect First Week With Non-Section Win Against Moon

One week into the 2025 season, the varsity softball team has played three home games and picked up three wins. The latest was a 9-3 victory against Moon on Friday afternoon.
The Mustangs were rolling early, taking a 4-0 lead four batters into the bottom of the first inning courtesy of a grand slam from Riley Stephans. It was Stephans' third home run of the season.
That was all the support Stephans needed to provide herself in the circle, as she pitched a complete game, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits. She walked four and struck out eight.
Dani Pici hit her second home run of the season in the fourth inning. She finished with two runs and two RBIs.
Liana Yusko stayed hot out of the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored. Lily Deluca continued her streak of multi-hit games, going 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and RBI.
Sydney Pici recorded a double and Bella and Gia Tavella also recorded hits.
Through three games, the Mustangs have recorded 12 home runs.
The win improves their record to 3-0.
They will travel for the first time this season when they go to Franklin Regional in a non-section game on Monday at 4 p.m.

Home Runs Continue To Power Varsity Softball In Narrow Win Against Knoch

The varsity softball team has used the long ball in the first two games of the season, hitting three more on Wednesday in an 8-7 win against Knoch.
Liana Yusko was the leader this game, hitting two home runs and driving in five runs. Mackenzie Marotta also hit a 3-run home run, giving the Mustangs seven different players who have homered through two games this season.
It was a comeback victory for the Mustangs, who fell behind 3-0 after two innings, but erupted for six runs in the third inning.
Lily Deluca and Gia Tavella also recorded two hits in the game.
Ruley Stephans came in relief in the circle and recorded seven strikeouts in four innings.
The win improves their record to 2-0 and they will host Moon on Friday at 4 p.m. in a non-section game.

Varsity Softball Slugs Seven Home Runs In Season-Opening Win Against Chartiers Valley

The temperature dropped outside, the bats stayed scorching hot for the girls varsity softball team in its 13-0 win in five innings against Chartiers Valley in the season and home opener on Monday.
Freshman Lily Deluca and junior Riley Stephans led the home run barrage with two apiece. Deluca's first was her first of her high school career and led the team with five RBIs. Stephans were both solo home runs. She also was the winning pitcher, tossing a two-hit, complete game shutout. She struck out two batters.
Senior Danielle Pici got the scoring started with a three-run home run in the first inning. Sophomore Sydney Pici hit her first career home run later in the game.
Sophomore Brooke Bernosky also hit her first career home run in the game.
Junior Gia Tavella went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
The win improves the Mustangs to 1-0.
They will host Knoch in another non-section game on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
