Tied 3-3 entering the sixth innings, the varsity baseball team scored nine runs in the final two innings to pull away with a 12-5 win at Franklin Regional's Haymaker Park on Monday.Jake Dombkowski led the offense offense going 3-for-4 with a home run, double, four RBIs and two runs scored.Tim Ruggiero hit a double and had two RBIs and Enzo Mele had a base hit, two RBIs, two runs scored and two walks.Also recording RBIs were Max Vollmer, John Nonnenberg and Anthony Jump.Connor Wilson, Dan Macioce and Ryan Lafferty also recorded hits.Braden Kemmerer picked up the win, going six innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits and struck out six.The win improves their record to 13-2 overall and 8-1 in the section.The Mustangs will host Franklin Regional today at 4 p.m. in the second game of the series.

The girls varsity lacrosse team honored the youth organization before the game and then went on to defeat Hempfield in a section game, 16-4, on Monday night.Ella Pedley and Carly Venanzi led the Mustangs with four goals each. Venanzi also had two assists.Jadyn Dupal recorded a hat trick and added an assist and Madi Stewart had a pair of goals and an assists.Also scoring were Jess Hartley, KK Osborne, and Brooke Price.Malayna Smith made six saves in net.The win improves the Mustangs record to 7-6.They will travel to Mt. Lebanon on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. start.

The varsity softball team completed the regular season sweep against Penn Hills on Friday with another run-rule 13-0 section win.Gia Tavella didn't record an out, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three singles, three RBIs and three runs scored. Sydney Pici hit the only home run of the game, a two-run home run in her first at bat. The Mustangs registered three triples in the game, two by Jaiden Gentile and one by Dani Pici. Brooke Bernosky had the other extra base hit in the game, a double off the fence.Also recording hits for the Mustangs were Liana Yusko, Mackenzie Marotta, and Bella Tavella. Marotta also picked up the win in the circle, pitching a complete game, allowing one hit and striking out nine.The team improves to 11-4 overall and 7-3 in section.They will trabel to North Hills on Monday at 4 p.m. for another section game.

The boys varsity volleyball team continues to play well down the stretch, winning its second consecutive match, a 3-1 win against Central Catholic at home on Thursday night.The Mustangs won the sets by scores of 25-23, 18-25, 25-21, 25-20Max Grice led the way with 31 kills, 14 digs, two blocks and two aces.Adam Smith had 13 kills, 10 digs and two blocks. Ramzy Feliachi led the team with 45 assists and two aces.Steven Pribozie and Taivon Rupert both led with 15 digs and three blocks, respectively. AJ Leone chipped in with six kills. The Mustangs will travel to Gateway for a section match on Monday.

The boys varsity tennis team won their third straight match and finished the home slate of the season with a 3-2 win against Knoch on Wednesday afternoon at Boyce Park.Zander Cobb had a straight set 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles and the Mustangs received a forfeit win at No. 3 singles. The deciding match was a 6-0, 6-1 win for Grant Jefferson and Lochlan Wallace at No. 2 doubles. The win was the fourth of the season for the Mustangs. They will conclude their season today when they travel to White Township Park at 3:30 p.m. to take on Indiana.

The varsity baseball team trailed the entire game until the fifth inning when they scored four runs and held on to a 7-6 section win against Kiski Area on Wednesday night.Connor Wilson and Brennan Ryan tied the game up with RBI singles in the fifth and Cam Napierkowski's 2-run double gave the Mustangs the lead for good. Napierkowski led the team with three RBIs and Wilson had two RBIs.Ryan finished with two hits and Jake Dombkowski went 3-for-3 with a double and run scored.Also recording hits for the Mustangs were Tim Ruggiero, Max Vollmer, and Ryan Lafferty.Braden Kemmerer got the win on the mound, going six innings, allowing five runs (two earned) and struck out two.The win improves their record to 12-2 overall and 7-1 in the section.The team will travel to Franklin Regional next Monday for a section game at 4 p.m.

The youth boys lacrosse teams were recognized prior to the game and then saw the boys varsity team deliver a 12-1 non-section win against West Allegheny on Tuesday night.Dom Colamarino led the team with five goals and Shane Jenkins had two goals. Also scoring were Matt Amen, James Beall, Brody Howell, Nike Leskovic and Noah Parente. Parente led the team with two assists.The win improves the Mustangs record to 4-5 overall.they will travel to Norwin for a section game on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

The boys varsity volleyball team picked up its first sweep of the season, defeating Franklin Regional in straight sets on Tuesday night.Leading the team in kills and aces was Max Grice and Adam Smith was second on the team in both.Leading the team in assists was Ramzy Feliachi and Steven Pribozie in digs.The win was the second of the season for the Mustangs.They will host Central Catholic on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. in a section match.

The varsity baseball team put up the most runs they have in a game all season, and needed every bit of it in its 17-13 section win at Kiski Area on Tuesday.Max Vollmer started the game with a three-run home run in the first inning, and finished it by pitching two scoreless innings and picking up the win. For the game, he finished 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, a walk, three runs scored and three RBIs.Tied 13-13 entering the last inning, Brennan Ryan delivered the go-ahead two run single, and the the Mustangs tacked on two more runs. Ryan went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a team-leading five RBIs.Dan Macioce had a double, two RBIs, a walk and three runs scored and John Nonnenberg hit a pinch-hit RBI double. In a back-and-forth battle with no team leading by more than three goals throughout the game, the girls varsity lacrosse team came away with a 9-8 non-section win against Franklin Regional on Monday night.Ella Pedley led the offense with four goals. Madi Stewart added two goals and Brooke Price, Carly Venanzi and Liv Iachini all had goals. Price and Venanzi also registered an assist.Malayna Smith was the difference-maker in net, registering 17 saves.The improves their record to 7-5 overall.They will be back in section on Wednesday when they travel to Bethal Park at 7 p.m.

It was a short turnaround for many of the track athletes after getting home in the early morning hours from the Butler Invite on Friday, but the Mustangs were back at in a few hours later and performed well at the Slippery Rock University Invite on Friday.For the girls, Amber Porter placed twice and had a couple of personal bests. Porter finished fourth in the high jump and seventh in the 100 hurdles. Amora Sorzano-Lee took seventh place in the 3,200.The boys registered multiple place winners. The relay team in the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 all took third place. The top overall place winner for the boys was Noah Odom finishing in fifth place in the 400 with a personal best time. Jordan Stead got a personal best in the 100, placing sixth, Maddox Roedersheimer finished the same with a person best in the high jump, and Tyler McClintock took seventh place in the steeple chase.Owen Proskin finished in seventh place in the 200 and eighth place in the pole vault.Placing in eighth place was

The boys varsity lacrosse team was clicking on all cylinders in their 12-5 road win at Baldwin on Thursday night. Brody Howell matched the Highlanders, leading the team with five goals and added an assist.Matt Amen recorded a hat trick and had two assists as well.Jack Majcher had two goals and an assist and Tyler Brenner recorded a goal and Dom Colamarino had a goal and an assist.Landen Gribbin, Shane Jenkins and Noah Parente also picked up assists.Marco Stropkaj led the Mustangs in net, registering 14 saves.The boys improve to 3-5 on the season and will host West Allegheny on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Entering Thursday night's non-section showdown, Avonworth scored double-digit runs in seven of their 13 games. Braden Kemmerer didn't care as his complete game, one-hitter silenced the potent Antelope bats to lead varsity baseball to a 3-1 win.Kemmerer didn't allow the only hit against him until a 2-out triple in the top of the sixth. He struck out three in the game.The Mustangs scored all their runs in the first two innings, highlighted by a home run by Ryan Lafferty. Lafferty finished the game 2-for-2 with a walk, run scored and a RBI.Jake Dombkowski hit his third triple in the last two games and had an RBI, run scored and a walk.Connor Wilson drove in the other run.Tim Ruggiero, Max Vollmer and Ryan Grimm also recorded hits.The win pushes their record to 10-2.They will jump back into section play next Tuesday when they travel to Kiski Area at 4 p.m.

In one of the biggest competitions of the season that showcased over 100 teams, the varsity track and field team represented well at the butler Invitational.The boys squad finished ninth overall with numerous place winners, led by Owen Proskin.Proskin took third place in the 110 hurdles, fifth in the 300 hurdles and fifth in the high jump.A pair of sixth place finishers were Kent Holmes in the 400 and Sloan Humphries in the triple jump. The 400 relay team took eighth.Leading the girls was Gabby Layne. Laybe finished in third place in the 100 and 200 and the 400 relay team also took third place.It will be a quick turnaround for the Mustangs, who will compete in the Slippery Rock Invitational today.

The boys varsity tennis team picked up its second win in a row with a 4-1 decision on Senior Day against Connellsville at Boyce Park on Wednesday.The Mustangs swept the the single matches with Zander Cobb winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Miguel Iglesias Lazaro winning 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and winning by forfeit at No. 3 singles.They also picked up a 6-3, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4) win with Quentin Caperton and Zalan Negele at No. 2 doubles. The Mustangs will host Knoch next Wednesday for their final home match at 3:30 p.m. at Boyce Park.

The varsity softball team erupted for eight runs in the first inning and cruised to a 12-1 win in five innings at Mars in section on Wednesday. The win completed the section sweep against Mars, outscoring the Fightin Planets 24-4 in the season series.Jaiden Gentile led the offense with three singles and two RBIs. Liana Yusko went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored and Dani Pici had a double and three RBIs.Sydney Pici went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.Brooke Bernosky went 2-for-3 with a RBI and run scored.Mackenzie Marotta and Bella Tavella also recorded hits. The varsity baseball team weathered the elements and made quick work of Penn Hills on Tuesday in its 15-0 win in three innings to finish the section series sweep against the Indians.The Mustangs recorded six extra base hits, including an inside-the-park home run by Ryan Lafferty who went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a perfect 5-for-5 against the Indians in the two-game series.Jake Dombkowski legged out two triples, drove in four runs and scored two runs in the win.Dan Macioce hit a double and a triple and drove in a run and scored three runs. Braden Kemmerer hit the last extra base hit for the Mustangs with a pinch hit double and came around to score.Cam Napierkowski singled and drove in two runs, including the bases loaded walk to invoke the run-rule. For the first time since at least 2019, the boys and girls varsity track and field team will be competing in the WPIAL team playoffs.Both teams finished in second place in the section with a 5-1 record.They both completed section play on Tuesday at home. The boys defeated Central Catholic 104-46 and McKeesport 112-38.The girls defeated Oakland Catholic 105-42 and McKeesport 132-10.The Mustangs will travel to the Slippery Rock Invitational on Friday.

The boys varsity tennis team rallied down 0-2 to defeat Central Catholic in section play on Monday at Boyce Park, 3-2.The Mustangs picked up their first win at No. 3 singles when Gavin Finke won 7-6 (2), 2-6, 6-2.The boys then swept the doubles matches. In No. 1 doubles Avery Shaffer and Lochlan Wallace won 6-3, 6-4. In No. 2 doubles, Grant Jefferson and Quentin Caperton won 6-3, 6-2.The Mustangs will host Connellsville next on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Boyce Park for Senior Day
