The boys varsity soccer team had a Senior Night to remember with its 5-0 win against Penn Hills on Thursday.The Mustangs had a pair of seniors, Chris Taylor and Noah Smith, both record two goals. Corey Nese also scored in the game.Senior Garrett Chandler led with two assists and seniors Liam Young and Kebish Pius also had an assist. Ethan Fachianno picked up an assist.Senior Brady McLaughlin combined for the shutout in goal with Chase Eber.The Mustangs improved to 12-0-3 overall and 8-0 in the section.They will host Hempfield on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The girls varsity volleyball team continued its push to the playoffs with a sweep against Connellsville at home on Thursday. It was the second time this season the Mustangs swept the Falcons.Mackenzie Marotta led the girls with a 15-assist, 10 kills double-double. Kennedy Filar had eight digs and Ella Pedley had six aces.Addison Then led with two blocks.The Mustangs improved to 7-3 overall and 3-3 in the section.They will travel to Greater Latrobe on Tuesday for a section match at 7:15 p.m.

Junior Christian Alter recorded a hat trick to the lead the boys varsity soccer team to a 5-1 section win at Gateway on Tuesday night. The Mustangs swept the regular season series against the Gators, winning the first contest 4-0.Also scoring goals were Austin Kolankowski and Andy Strasser. Strasser also added an assist.Also assisting on goals were Gage Adinolfi with two, Noah Smith and Fedgi Aristyl.The win improves the Mustangs to 11-0-3 overall and 7-0 in the section.They will host Penn Hills on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. for Senior Night.

Wes Lorish Finishes Sixth At WPIAL Championships, Advances to PIAA

After finishing tied for 14th a year ago at the Class 3A Boys Golf WPIAL Championships, senior Wes Lorish improved his ranking, taking sixth place in the event held at Oakmont Country Club on Tuesday.Lorish finished 2-over par in the final round to finish the WPIAL championship 5-over par.Senior Colton Lusk from Peters Township won the championship with a 2-under par for the two rounds.Lorish will prepare for the PIAA championships on Oct. 20-21 at Penn State University.

The rain didn't dampen the mood during the girls varsity soccer senior night on Monday as the Mustangs defeated West Mifflin, 8-0. It was the second time this season they defeated the Titans by that score.The Mustangs had a trio of player score two goals with Emily Grubich, Olivia Bigger and Olivia Shafer. Bigger and Shafer also had an assist. CJ Gauntner and Allison Porter also scored a goal.Mia Nardo led the team with two assists. Gianna Revetta, Serena Carnahan and Ali Joyce all had assists as well.Makenna Anderson and Malayna Smith combined for the shutout. The win improves the girls record to 10-1 overall and 9-0 in the section.They will be back in action on Saturday when they host Norwin in a non-section game at 2:30 p.m.

The girls varsity volleyball team began the the week on a positive note, sweeping Elizabeth Forward on the road in a non-section match.Lily Davis led the offense with 10 kills, and also had two blocks.Kennedy Filar had 13 digs and Mia Waitt had three aces. Mackenzie Marotta led the Mustangs with 23 assists.The win improves their record to 6-3.They will be back on the court tonight in another non-section match at Kiski Area at 7 p.m.

The Mustangs pulled away in the second half, scoring three of their four goals after the break.The boys have now swept the regular season series against the Vikings.Gage Adinolfi led the offense with two goals, including a penalty kick.The first two goals of the game came off corner kicks scored by Fedgi Fertil and Kent Holmes.Assisting on goals were Garrett Chandler and Andy Strasser.Brady McLaughlin recorded the shutout in net.The Mustangs improve to 10-0-2 overall and 6-0 in the section. They will travel to Franklin Regional for a non-section game on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

In its biggest section game of the season, the girls varsity soccer team defeated Franklin Regional, 4-2, to open up the second half of section play.Franklin Regional opened up the scoring with an early goal, but the Mustangs responded with three goals to take a commanding lead.In the second half, the Panthers cut the deficit to one, but the Mustangs responded with the insurance goal to seal the win.Scoring for the girls were Mia Nardo, Ali Joyce, Gianna Revetta and Emily Grubich. Nardo, Gia Babilon and Olivia Bigger recorded assists.The Mustangs improve to 8-1 overall and 7-0 in the section, holding a two game lead.The girls will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Elizabeth Forward for a section game at 7:30 p.m.

The girls varsity volleyball team hosted its annual tournament over the weekend, and came away without a blemish.The Mustangs went undefeated and didn't drop a set.In pool play, the girls defeated Penn Hills, Allderdice and Brentwood all by 2-0 scores. They defeated River Valley and Franklin Regional 1-0 in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectfully.In the championship, the Mustangs swept Indiana, 2-0.The girls will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Norwin in a section match at 7:15 p.m.

In a battle of two undefeated teams jockeying for first place in the section, the boys varsity soccer team came away victorious against defending WPIAL champions Norwin, 3-2, on Thursday night.The Knights jumped out to an early 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game, but then the Mustangs rallied for three unanswered goals in the first half to take control of the game.Norwin scored on a penalty kick in the second half, but the boys were able to hold off the Knights to secure the win and sole possession of first place in the section.Scoring for the Mustangs were Gage Adinolfi, Austin Kolankowski and and Andy Strasser. Adinolfi, Garrett Chandler and Bryce Bobich picked up the assists.The boys improved to 8-0-2 overall and 5-0 in the section.They will step out of the section and travel to Greater Latrobe on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start.

On the season, he has shot 51-under par. The boys finished the regular season with a 12-3 record and as co-section champions and will prepare for the team and individual playoffs.

For the second year in a row, Wes Lorish can claim himself as the individual section champion. Lorish earned medalist honors with a round of 68 at Meadowink Golf Course on Tuesday. He defeated Franklin Regional's Colin Holt by one stroke.Tim Pease also will advance to the WPIAL finals with a fourth place finish and round of 72. Ten players from the section hit the target score of 81 and are advancing to the WPIAL finals.The first round of the WPIAL Class 3A boys individual round will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at Southpointe Golf Club in Canonsburg, Pa.

The boys varsity football team started fast, scoring on its second offensive play of the game en route to a 24-7 win to open section play against Shaler on Friday.After a trick play that saw quarterback John Nonnenberg throw a backwards pass to Brendan Marston, who then threw a deep pass to Darian Nelson, Nick Odom rushed into the end zone from 18 yards out to put the Mustangs up early. Olivia Bigger made the extra point for the 7-0 lead.Shaler responded with a touchdown of their own, but that would be the only drive they could muster up any points. Odom's second rushing touchdown of the first quarter and Bigger's extra point gave Plum a 14-7 lead, one they would not relinquish. The girls varsity golf team narrowly defeated Indiana at Three Lakes Golf Course on Thursday via a tiebreaker, winning 211-212.The win was the second in as many days for the Mustangs, and secured the sweep over the Indians for the season.It was the fourth win of the season for the girls in its first season in the WPIAL.The Mustangs will be back on the course Monday when they face Greater Latrobe at Latrobe Country Club at 3:30 p.m.
